Lord Dunboyne Memorial Evening in the Picture Gallery of Kilkenny Castle followed by drinks

Thursday 20 August

 

9.30 am

Buses depart from The Parade for Borris House, County Carlow, home of the MacMurrough Kavanagh family

10.20 am

Coffee and biscuits on arrival

11.00 am

Talk by Edmund Joyce on the Regency Outfitting of Borris House by Walter & Thomas Butler

1.00-2.30 pm

Lunch at Borris House followed by a talk on the Butler Portraits and the Ladies of Llangollen

4.00 pm

Visit to Old Leighlin Cathedral, Carlow followed by a visit to Maidenhall, the home of Dr. and Mrs. Crampton, and home of Hubert Butler, founding member of the Butler Society for drinks and canapés

Friday 21 August

 

9.30 am

Depart Kilkenny Castle for a coach trip to South Tipperary (Clonmel & Kilcash)

10.15 am

Arrival at Old Saint Mary's Church, Mary Street, Clonmel, tea/coffee reception on arrival and opportunity to explore this medieval parish church

10.45-11.45 am Illustrated talks on The Butler Trail (Marie Phelan, county tourism officer) and town walls of the Butler towns of Clonmel and Carrick-on-Suir (Clare Lee, Tipperary County Council)
12.15 pm Transfer by coach to Bulmer's Cider Factory for one-hour guided tour with Eoin O'Gorman

2.15 pm

Lunch at Kilcash Community Centre

4.30 pm

Back on coach for return journey to Kilkenny

Saturday 22 August

 
10.00 am

Hubert Butler Memorial Lecture by genealogist, Craig Foster, who is visiting from Salt Lake City, who will give a talk on the Dunboyne Papers project

11.30 am

Open Forum at which members may raise and discuss issues relevant to the Society, such as the Golden Anniversary in 2017, national events and other activities.

1.00 pm

Lunch in Zuni’s Restaurant, Kilkenny

4.00 pm

Option of tours of the Castle

7.00 pm

Pre-dinner drinks and talk by Sir Charles Ponsonby Bart on his grandfather Arthur, 6th Marquess of Ormonde

8.00 pm

Reception and Dinner in Great Hall of Kilkenny Castle (Black Tie optional)

Service in St Canice’s Cathedral, Kilkenny
